Persian, oriental, wool and silk — washed by hand, repaired by hand.
Two hundred feet of elevation separate the river plain from the top of the Hill, and a rug fails differently at each end of that. Downtown it is alluvial silt too fine to feel. Up on the sand ridge it is a house built to breathe, still breathing. Across the river in Aiken it is arena sand and stall chemistry walking in on a boot. Rugs are collected, washed off site by hand, dried flat, and brought back.
A hand-knotted Heriz and a polypropylene flatweave off a shelf are not the same object and they must never meet the same brush. Vegetable dyes bleed. Silk scorches under heat. A cotton foundation shrinks if it is pulled out of the wash wet and dried under tension. Guessing is how good rugs get destroyed, and it usually happens on the first clean rather than the tenth.
So nothing is cleaned until it has been read properly: fibre content, dye stability, weave construction, backing, earlier repairs, and whatever the Savannah River valley has managed to work down into the foundation since the last time anybody looked. Only then does a rug get a method. That inspection costs nothing, it happens before you commit to anything, and if a rug is not worth the cost of cleaning we will say so.
Wool, silk, cotton, jute and synthetics each get their own water temperature, pH and agitation.

Water damage service
Generic rug advice assumes one climate and one kind of dirt, and the CSRA supplies neither. The Savannah River divides two states here, and the ground either side of it arrives on a rug as three different materials with three different mechanisms. Nearly none of the damage we collect has anything to do with people walking on the rug.
Very few of the soaked rugs on this route met a river. They met a supply line behind a washing machine, a water heater at the end of its life, a slow leak under a dishwasher, or a thunderstorm that put more water on a downtown street in an hour than the drains were built to move. Water that starts clean is rarely clean by the time it has crossed a floor to reach the rug.
The slower version does more damage over time and gets noticed far less. A rug on a 1950s slab poured with no vapour barrier under it, sealed down by a solid rubber pad. An enclosed porch where winter condensation runs off the glass onto the same two sides of a rug every morning. A rug that crossed an ocean in a container and came out with tide lines along the folds. In every one of those the pile can look sound while the foundation is not, so what matters is the same: flush it, treat it, dry it flat with the moisture content actually measured — and photograph it first, because that is what an insurer will ask for.

These are real rugs from recent jobs, photographed before and after cleaning with no stock images and no retouching. Every rug gets the same process: inspection, fiber-appropriate treatment, full wash, and controlled drying.
A classic under-furniture soiling pattern: clean center, gray border. Deep-pile shag traps soil a vacuum can't reach. A full wash and careful drying restored an even white edge to edge.
Dozens of dark spots across a light flatweave. Each spot was pre-treated, then the whole rug was washed so it came out clean with no rings or shadows.
Deep navy next to ivory is a dye-bleed risk. Colorfastness was tested first, then the rug got a pH-balanced wash. The yellow streak is gone and the colors are sharper, with no bleeding.
Yellowing this widespread sits deep in the fibers and foundation, not on the surface. Targeted treatment plus a full wash flushed it out and the trellis pattern reads cleanly again.
